About Local Folks Foods
Local Folks Foods is an outgrowth of the innovative natural farming ventures of Homestead Growers of Sheridan, Indiana. The popular LocalFolks product line was originally founded to use excess harvest from the family mushroom and produce operations. They began marketing their products through a number of local farmers markets in 2006, quickly expanding into local retail establishments.
In just a few years, Steve Spencer and his wife Anita, founders of LocalFolks Foods, have created a delicious line of frozen mushroom patties and ravioli, as well as salsa, pasta sauce, marinara, ketchup, honey barbecue sauce, hot sauces, jams, and stone ground mustard.
In addition to their own home-grown produce, the Spencers partner with other regional farmers and farming cooperatives to collect the best and freshest fruits and vegetables for their products. A look at their labels will tell you that no corn syrup, artificial coloring, or preservatives make their way onto LocalFolks short, simple, ingredient list.
By focusing on fresh, local, seasonal ingredients, LocalFolks not only celebrates the rich harvest available in our region, but limits the environmental footprint required to produce and market their offerings. The Spencers are always on the lookout for new ingredients to add to their product line, providing new opportunities for local farmers and uncompromising quality to the consumer.
